Our Story
From Mac & Cheese to Growing Non-Profit Community Assistance Center
Cypress Assistance Ministries (CAM) was born in 1990 out of compassion — and out of the backseat of a car. Volunteers served simple macaroni and cheese meals to hungry neighbors who didn’t know where their next meal would come from. That small act of kindness grew into a movement, and within a year, CAM became its own nonprofit organization dedicated to serving the growing needs of the Cypress, Texas community.
Today, CAM is a cornerstone of hope. As a faith-based nonprofit, we walk alongside families facing eviction, seniors needing food delivered, the unemployed searching for work, and anyone seeking hope for a better future.
Who We Are
Our Programs Provide:
Who We Serve
Every year, CAM serves thousands of neighbors across the Cypress, TX area
Behind every number is a story: a mom who can put dinner on the table, a child who has supplies for the first day of school, a father who finds meaningful work, a grandmother who feels remembered.
30,000+ individuals living below the poverty line within our service zip codes
12,000 children who struggle with food insecurity
Families who are one crisis away from homelessness
Seniors living on fixed incomes
Veterans searching for stability
Powered by Community
CAM doesn’t do this work alone. We are strengthened by our community — churches, businesses, volunteers, and donors who link arms with us to care for neighbors in need. Together, we provide effective and efficient care while avoiding duplication of services.
When you give your time, your resources, or your prayers, you become part of the story.
Thank You!
From serving macaroni and cheese in 1990 to operating a network of programs today, CAM has grown because of one thing: the willingness of our community to care for its neighbors.
"If not for CAM, my life would have undoubtedly turned out much different. I have two siblings. We grew up in a less-than-ideal situation. There were no Christmases, birthdays, tooth fairies, Easter bunnies, or back to school shopping days in our rent house. It wasn’t even a “check to check” situation.
CAM could always be counted on though. As children, we had no idea what charity was. We just knew, all of the sudden, there was food and clothes, where before, none were present.
Because of the enormous efforts made by CAM and their support staff, three children in what was once a dire situation, were able to focus on education and dreams instead of constantly wondering about our next meal. We owe this organization more than could ever be tallied.
Thanks to all CAM volunteers."

“I was a young Mom when CAM opened its doors. My girls and I looked forward to our weekly visit with glee. We would shop at Angel’s Attic and donate food, clothing, and toys they had outgrown every week. Angel’s Attic and your ministry in our small corner of the world was so influential in my daughters’ lives that my oldest daughter, Erika, grew up with the dream of founding her own Non-Profit Organization like CAM. She eventually accepted a position with a Non-Profit Organization in Little Rock, Arkansas. There, she created an outreach program that they called “Erika’s Closet”, a food pantry and clothing, coats, and personal items resource center for the homeless in Little Rock. It was her life’s passion to help the people who found themselves in a difficult moment in their lives to persevere. She achieved her dream before going on to heaven at the age of 32. The stories we heard at her memorial service of her lifechanging work were incredibly touching. Erika’s dream began with CAM.
Grace, one of my younger daughters, is a communications director at an Educational Non-Profit Organization here in the Houston area. Cypress Assistance Ministries and its amazing team have truly left an indelible mark in all our lives. I can only Imagine how many stories like this exist in and around our community because of your work! All these stories would surely fill up the pages of volumes of books!
May God continue to bless y’all and all those who walk through your doors!”
